Research shows that implicit bias--unconsciously held assumptions or schemas that impact an evaluator's interpretation of data--impacts faculty hiring and evaluation. Search committees are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the following research on implicit bias and to identify steps they can take to address implicit bias in their review of applicants.

Building on Inclusive Excellence Hiring Program
The Building on Inclusive Excellence Hiring Program allocates additional tenure-track faculty hires for candidates who meet criteria aligned with SDSU’s campus commitment to diversity. This program has been developed by the strategic plan working group on the Recruitment and Retention of Underrepresented Faculty, reviewed and approved by the Senate committees on Faculty Affairs, Diversity, Equity, and Outreach, Academic Policy and Planning, and Academic Resources and Planning, and authorized by the Provost.

Faculty Advancement creates all new user accounts when the search is entered into Interfolio. Invitations to the system are no longer generated. To access your account, please navigate to Interfolio.com and select the “Google Sign In” option from the “Sign In” menu using your SDSU email.
The most common reason this occurs for users is their account is associated with the committee manager (committee chair) and evaluator (committee member) access levels.
To toggle between the two statuses, select the drop-down menu under the “Positions” title and scroll down to select “All Evaluator Positions”. Please refer to the Interfolio guides posted above for visual reference.
